Steering Units

HYDROSTATIC STEERING CONTROL UNITS

OSPB &OSPC

Capacities 50cc-300cc/rev

Flows up to 80 l/min

Pressures up to 140 bar

Sauer-Danfoss 'Orbit' type steering units operate on the principle of an internal gear rotating within a fixed external gear. The internal gear transmits the torque generated by the application of pressure from the hydraulic oil fed into the unit which is then metered via the steering control spool valve attached to the steering wheel to deliver, at low manual effort, the correct volume of oil to the steering cylinder. Typical applications for steering units are construction & agricultural machinery.

ADVANTAGES

LOAD OR NON LOAD REACTING UNITS
Units can be supplied as 'load reacting' which gives the operator a feedback into the steering wheel as the steering loads change. Alternatively the units can be 'non load' reactive which means the operator has no 'feel' of any steering loads.

OPEN CENTRE - POWER BEYOND FACILITY
Units can be supplied with open centre control that allows oil flow through the unit so that only when steering is activated will the flow be diverted into the steering circuit. Open centre systems can be supplied with the facility to activate functions downstream of the steering unit - power beyond.
.

STANDARD EUROPEAN PORTS
OSPB & OSPC units are supplied in conventional BSP or UNF four port configuration which is an accepted standard in agricultural & construction market places.

MANUAL FAILSAFE STEERING FEATURE
Units can have the facility to revert to manual mode in the event of a pump or hydraulic system failure.

Temperature

Oil temperature should be between +30ºC & +60ºC during normal operation. Oil life is greatly reduced if temperature exceeds 60ºC. As a general rule, oil life is halved for each 8ºC temperature exceeds 60ºC.

Filtering

It is necessary to keep the level of contamination within a hydraulic system at an acceptable level to ensure trouble free operation. Filtration should always be specified at a level that protects the most sensitive item or component in the system.
